Debs Paterson

Debs Paterson is an award-winning director and writer whose first feature Africa United was made by Pathé and BBC Films. Shot on location in Rwanda, Burundi and South Africa, the comedy-drama premièred at TIFF ’10 to a standing ovation and was a gala première at the London Film Festival before releasing theatrically nationwide and internationally.

Debs was nominated for the Best Debut Director BIFA for Africa United, and was a BAFTA Brit to Watch in 2011. She has a masters in Literature from Cambridge and used to present Singapore’s version of ‘Match of the Day’, amongst many other jobs, including features casting, door-to-door sales in SoCal and trade union administration. She has lived and worked in a number of countries, was ‘made in Taiwan’ and did her A levels in South India. She has filmed in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Debs is London-based (mostly) and has several new feature projects in development.
