Andrea Harkin

Andrea’s first short film The Flyer won a BAFTA-Scotland new talent award in 2008. She graduated from the National Film & Television School in February 2011 with a portfolio of short film dramas. Communion was nominated for the British Council Award for Best UK Short and was featured in a showcase of ‘outstanding short films by British women directors’ in the BFI’s Made In Britain (Next Generation) season. Her graduation film For Megan won a Special Mention for Best Student Short at LSFF and she had two shorts (Remnants and Waterbaby) in consecutive selections at the BFI London Film Fest. All of her films have travelled and competed in top international festivals. Andrea directed an episode of BBC Northern Ireland’s Belfast-based drama 6Degrees last November, and was then selected for Channel 4’s highly competitive ‘Coming Up’ scheme. She shot the half-hour drama Sammy’s War earlier this year and it screened to positive reviews and Critic’s Choice selections in the Sunday Times, the Independent and TimeOut. She is developing her first feature film The Rain Days through Screen Yorkshire’s Triangle scheme.
