At Raindance we believe a key part of filmmaking is finding like minded people to work with and grow creatively. A great way to do this is by entering filmmaking competitions and challenges. The Reel Film Challenge involves 80 filmmakers, across ten days and literally hundreds of different routes through Europe. Sounds interesting right?
The Reel Challenge is a 10-day creative adventure for young filmmakers, supported by an incredible roster of partners and industry professionals. Participants travel from the Launch Workshop in London to the Film Festival in Budapest while creating their own short film en-route for a panel of expert judges. Raindance have recently reconfirmed their partnership with The Reel Challenge, which means they’re rejoining the Reel Community with organisations such as Channel 4 and the BFI.
Reasons to take part
The community
Reel attracts some of the very best young talent from around the UK and abroad. Participants join a thriving community of ambitious and adventurous filmmakers, where new partnerships and opportunities develop all the time.
Industry partners
The workshop hosts and film festival judges volunteer their time and expertise because they believe in Reel’s vision. They’re committed to helping fresh talent in the industry. Directors, Producers, Writers, Festival Programmers (and more!) all work with us because they believe in Reel and what they do.
Value
You simply cannot buy the experience that Reel offers yourself, but if you could it would cost significantly more than the £299 that a ticket costs!
Unique
The Reel Challenge is the first event of its kind, and it’s generating a real buzz for exactly that reason.
Growth & development
Reel takes you out of your comfort zone and encourages you to push your limits. ‘Adventure’ is at the core of Reel, and that means taking risks, bettering yourself, and surprising yourself with what you can achieve.
Opportunities
Reel awards and prizes include internships, opportunities to work on-set with industry professionals, experience days with major organisations, and more! Reel ensures that participants gain a wealth of experience that will serve them well as they develop their careers.
Work hard/Play hard
The Reel Challenge is tough, so when you arrive in Budapest you’ll be more than ready for their epic wrap party, hosted at a top ‘ruin bar’ in Budapest. Reel adopt a ‘work hard, play hard’ approach to filmmaking that’s received glowing reviews from participants.
Next big thing
Reel is set to more than double in size this year, which means more films, more participants, more partners, more opportunities, bigger parties, and a bigger alumni community to get involved with. It’s going to be epic!
It’s easy to get involved
Tickets on The Reel Challenge cost just £299 per person, which includes the Launch Workshop, Film Festival, Wrap Party, 1 night’s accommodation in London and 2 in Budapest, awards, prizes, and lifetime membership of The Reel Community.
This November it’s even easier to get involved: Reel currently have a special offer running, allowing you to guarantee your place on The Reel Challenge for just £30. You’ll then have 3 months to pay the remaining balance (£269).
