Make a dynamic stop-motion animation from the comfort of your own home! Stop-motion animation doesn’t have to be cumbersome or time-consuming: Using just materials from around your house and your smart phone or tablet, you can tell bite-sized, animated stories in no time. During this workshop, we’ll get inspiration from playful stop motion animators like Norman McLaren, Paul Bush, and PES, go over the principles of animation you’ll need to make your motions magical, and explore different techniques including object animation, cut-out animation, and pixilation.

What you’ll learn

  • How to make a simple at home stop motion set up
  • The basics of stop motion apps (we’ll use Stop Motion Studio, but these will apply across all apps)
  • The animation principles of motion you need to create convincing movements under the camera
  • An introduction to different techniques of stop motion animation including object animation, cut-out, and pixilation

The Lockdown Sessions: Stop Motion Animation from Home

I was very impressed by this excellent webinar, both informative and extremely pleasant. How wonderful to imagine our inanimate objects becoming alive and with many interesting examples we were given all the guidelines needed in order to start our own personal project. In these long lockdown days how nice to imagine starting a conversation with your roses or with the local foxes who have cheekingly invited themselves in the garden. This beautiful world of imagination was well presented and well articulated, with all technical details and websites needed offered during the session. I was left speechless, very pleased about having acquired this new knowledge and I remain very grateful for this excellent moment

Tuning in from Florida whilst in Lockdown with my American girlfriend it was great listening to a fellow filmy give such a wonderful lecture from New York.

Zoom allows this beautiful coming together with all these amazing lockdown sessions over the last weeks.

    Usually London based I am
enjoying this time to think and be creative.

We are both Raindance members and very great full to you all for these fantastic interludes.

Well presented and enjoyable. My favorite so far. Something I didn’t know was missing from my life. Looking forward to making my first animation. Thank you!!

I did some animation but a long time ago and technology has changed so much. This was a great starter to get me motivated again – I downloaded the free app mentioned and did a bit of experimenting. The presenter has a friendly and intimate style. Doing the stop-frame in front of us was useful.
As a school technician, this has helped me brush up on skills to take into the classroom. I will look into some of the other sites mentioned. Thanks very much

  5. Barbara Vonau

Great introduction to the subject with lots of useful tips and resources on how to get started for free. Perfect for lockdown and inspirational.
