The British Independent Film Awards was founded by Raindance in 1998 to honour and celebrate independent films made in Britain. Previous winners have included Billy Elliot, Slumdog Millionaire and The King’s Speech.

The British Independent Film Awards are fast approaching, taking place on the 9th of December. Here’s a bit of information about all of the talented nominees for Best Actor, four of which are receiving their first BIFA nominations.

 

Riz Ahmed for Ill Manors

Riz Ahmed is an up-and-coming British Pakistani actor and rapper. He is known for his performances in the films The Road to Guantanamo, Shifty, and Four Lions. This is his third BIFA acting nomination. The film Ill Manors is also being nominated for the Douglas Hickox (Directorial Debut) Award, as well as the Best Achievement in Production award.

 

 

Steve Oram for Sightseers

Steve Oram is an English actor, comedian, writer, and musician. He has frequently worked in television, and this is his first major role in a feature film and first nomination for a BIFA award. Oram co-wrote the screenplay for Sightseers with his co-star, Alice Lowe, for which he is also being nominated for this year.

 

 Terence Stamp for Song For Marion

Terence Stamp is an accomplished English actor, having acted in over 60 films. A few of his film credits are The Limey, Valkyrie, Superman II, and Billy Budd. He has won 6 awards, including a Golden Globe, and has been nominated for 8 others, including an Academy Award. This is his first BIFA nomination. Song For Marion is being nominated for 3 BIFA awards.

 

 

Tim Roth for Broken

Tim Roth is an English actor and director. He is known for his roles in Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, The Incredible Hulk, and Rob Roy. He has won 14 awards and has been nominated for 13 others, including an Academy Award. This is his first BIFA nomination. The film Broken is being nominated for 9 BIFA awards.

 

Toby Jones for Berberian Sound Studio

Toby Jones is an English actor. He is known for his performances in Captain America: The First Avenger, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Frost/Nixon, and the Harry Potter films as the voice of Dobby the house elf. Berberian Sound Studio is being nominated for 7 BIFA awards and gives Jones his first BIFA nomination.
