Constraints, in many ways, are the starting point for creativity in its purest form, the idea that limitations can spark something in our brains to step up and take a challenge. But, even further than that, our constraints aren’t just a good exercise in creativity — sometimes they’re the entire reason to create.
In that spirit, Musicbed has announced its first-ever Musicbed Challenge. They’re challenging filmmakers like you to create an incredible short film, using pre-selected songs from their artists, and enter the final film in one of five categories:
- Music Video
- Spec Ad
- Travel Lifestyle
Musicbed Challenge is free and you can download the Starter Kit for full instructions on how to join in. In just a few simple steps, you’ll be well on your way.
By giving you constraints in time, categories, and even music, their setting up your creative brain to make something great. Want your song to inspire a character’s journey? Go for it. Think a sound is perfect for an off-the-wall music video? Have at it.
There’s nothing more rewarding than standing up to a challenge and succeeding. Of course, there are actual rewards too.
For winning selections, Musicbed is giving away $30,000 in film grants to bring your dream projects to life. They’re also giving away more than $50,000 in film gear as part of your prize packages.
And your work won’t be reviewed by just anyone — their judge’s panel includes some of the most influential names in the industry (including professionals from Sundance, Somesuch, Vimeo, and more). These next-level creatives, chosen specifically for their expertise in each category, represent some of the most talented minds working today. If you stand up to the challenge, they’ll be personally reviewing your work and considering it for a top prize.
Musicbed Challenge is the perfect chance to let yourself go wild. As filmmakers, we know what it’s like out in the real world — sometimes you have to submit to other people’s visions, ideas, and feedback. But, this event is meant to challenge you. To spark something that will inspire you to make something like you’ve never imagined.
So, our only advice is: Don’t hold back. Create something that will surprise the judges and succeed in spite of its constraints, because that’s why they’ve designed Musicbed Challenge.
It’s time to get to work! Final submissions are due in just a few weeks — July 9 at 11:59 pm (Central Time). Each film must be between 1 and 10 minutes long and include at least 10 seconds from a song in the playlist assigned to your category. Click here to learn more and download your free Starter Kit.
