Matthew Hammett Knott has written a fantastic piece on Almodavar’s Favourite Women, although he prefaces this article by stating that the term his something he personally dislikes. It implies, he continues, that the women are subservient to the male, and orbit the male star wantonly.
However, as we know, this is not how Almodavar uses female characters in his story. He is well known for using his actors, male and female, over and over again. Antonio Banderos’ 30 year career has created cinema’s most recognised rep company of female actors, Mathew claims. We at Raindance would have to agree.
