World’s Top Short Film Festivals

Worlds Top 100 Short Film FestivalsShort filmmaking is in the midst of a rennaissance because of the revenue potential offered by IPTV and initiatives like www.raindance.tv.

Screening at a festival is a sure-fire way to start creating a buzz around your film and your career. You are also likely to bump into short-film buyers eager for content for the dozens of fledgling websites desperate for movies. Short films are much easier to see on the web or on a mobile telephone than features (at the moment, at least)

Troll down this list, and click on the links and look at each festivals programming to see if your film would fit. And google them to see if there any satisfied filmmakers talking about the festival of your choice.

Finally, happy hunting. Don’t forget that Raindance Film Festival, now Britain’s largest independent film festival, loves short films, and ware open for submissions. Raindance is also a Oscar qualifying festival for short films.

Raindance

About Raindance

Since 1992 Raindance has been offering advice and support for independent fimmakers. We started the Raindance Film Festival in 1993, and the British Independent Film Awards in 1998.

Most of our year is spent training thousands of new and established filmmakers in all aspects of film. Among high profile alumni are Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins), David Yates (Harry Potter), Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn – who actually met at a Raindance course. Raindance training is one of the world’s largest catering for over 3000 students per year.

In 2011 we launched an innovative Postgraduate Film Degree with Staffordshire University and the Independent Film Trust.

In 2013 we relaunched our production arm, Raw Talent with the feature Love.Honour.Obey.

  1. What upcoming film festivals do you recommend submitting shorts to? - Quora - October 2, 2013

[...] 1  Anthony Ferreri, Filmmaker, ConsultantFilmmaker, Consultant The Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival. I don't think they're open for submissions right now, but it's a great festival to be in or at; they value filmmakers, filmmaking and people who just think differently than the majority. The next festival is going to be awesome (April 2013)!www.vtxiff.comI dfon't know how shorts will be programmed for the upcoming festival, but the one that happened this year had a whole block devoted to short films, and also peppered them throughout the rest of the festival. They screen films from all over the world.Embed QuoteComment Loading… • 4 Oct, 2012 1  Amjed Job http://www.raindance…. [...]

I don’t know what is the criteria (seems like there are more big name festivals and Oscar qualifying festival…) and when it was last updated. I don’t know this list is correct but still it will be good material for filmmakers who are looking for film festival to submit. Only thing I feel sad it that SAPPORO Short Fest was not in the list… It is quite famous and has good reputation among filmmakers though… Anyway if you are interested in the list, please visit Raindance Film Festival. [...] Basically, festivals have become a way that distributors find new films. Festivals have also become an alternative to a theatrical release, especially for specialty or cause related movies. Being selected into a festival means you benefit from all the festival publicity for your film, which raises the profile of your film and hopefully will attract potential distributors to your movie. We have created a list of the films we think are the best film festivals for features and documentaries and another one for short film festivals. [...]
