About Michael Sparaga

Michael is an award-winning Canadian screenwriter and producer.  His debut feature, the critically-acclaimed, superhero-comedy SIDEKICK played in numerous worldwide film festivals and was released in Canada by Maple Pictures before going on to sell in multiple international territories, including the US (Warner). Remake rights were optioned by Universal's Focus Features.
His follow-up production, MAPLE FLAVOUR FILMS, a humorous TV-hour documentary on the state of the Canadian film industry, which Michael also directed, made the rounds on the Canadian film circuit and aired on Canadian airlines and PayTV.
Michael’s second feature, the workplace-comedy SERVITUDE, co-starring Dave Foley, Enrico Colantoni and Margot Kidder, was theatrically released in Canada in 2012 by Alliance Films.  It was the first film greenlit for production out of Telefilm Canada’s Features Comedy Lab.  It has sold in multiple international territories, including the UK and the US.
Michael returned to the director's chair for the feature documentary THE MISSING INGREDIENT about Manhattan restaurants, which was theatrically released in Canada in July 2016. It will be released on home video in the fall of 2016 by Blue Ice Docs in Canada and Virgil Films in the US. Michael is currently in production on another feature documentary, this one about TV fan campaigns, to be release in 2017.
