Movie Money

You have a great idea for a movie. You've met your writer and had meeting after meeting about the script. You've attended a film festival or two and found a hot director and a couple of actors. Now you need some cash to make your short or feature.

This evening workshop will run through the basic financing tools available for any business, not just the film business. These tax-efficient finance structures make the UK one of the most attractive places in Europe to raise money for film production. Find out how they work and how to utilise them.

  • Company Structure (what’s best for your film)
  • VCT’s and the bank of Mum and Dad
  • EIS & SEIS – Pros and Cons
  • Government Film Funds
  • Crowd Funding
  • Film Tax Credits & R and D
  • IP – An extra asset?
  • Profit Shares

This evening class outlines the basics of film finance and should provide you with the elements of a plan to finance your movie.

Alexandra Bentley
Alexandra began her career in the film industry over a decade ago at Deluxe Digital, before

moving onto Theatrical Sales departments of Warner Brothers and later Twentieth Century

Fox.

Her practical knowledge of the business of film is supported by her First Class Honours

Degree in Film and Media from University of London.

She joined The Philm Company in 2012 and produced THE LAST SHOWING, a $2m

psychological thriller, starring Robert Englund (NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET), Emily

Berrington (24, HUMANS) and Finn Jones (GAME OF THRONES), which sold to Sony Pictures

in the UK, as well as a number of top distributors around the world. She also raised a

development fund, which allowed for the production of the BAPTISM SPEC TRAILER and

purchase of a number of options on books and scripts.

In 2014 she produced THE FOUR WARRIORS - family action adventure, released by

distribution companies, such as Metrodome (UK), Lionsgate (US) in 2015, amongst many

others globally.

Her most recent producing credit is for a US shot thriller - INDISCRETION, starring Oscar

winner Mira Sorvino, Cary Elwes, Christopher Backus and Katherine McNamara, currently in

the final stages of post production, represented domestically by Preferred Content.

Alex recently became a winner of UK Trade & Investment’s competition – Talent Goes to

Hollywood for her spec trailer Baptism (a feature she’s in development with alongside

director Phil Hawkins), and was awarded a trip to Los Angeles for the BAFTA Britannia

Awards, as well as a number of meetings with Hollywood studios and high profile

production companies in order to finance the project.

She is currently in development on a number of projects including a teen horror, two

comedies and a couple of action films. Alongside fellow producer Jennifer Handorf, Alex also

runs a series of film industry talks, at private member’s clubs: Soho House and the Century

Club, as well as guest lectures at the London Met Film School and Norwich University.
